Busch Eager to Return to the No. 15 at Martinsville SpeedwayKyle Busch returns to the seat of the No. 15 ditech.com Chevrolet Silverado for Billy Ballew Motorsports this Saturday at Martinsville Speedway. Busch was unable to compete in the last NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series event held at Las Vegas Motor Speedway due to his NASCAR NEXTEL Cup obligations, but is eager to jump behind the wheel of the No. 15 in the remaining five races of the 2005 season. The team tested at the half-mile oval last week in preparation for the Kroger 200 and came away with some valuable information to help with this weekend’s upcoming race.
“The Martinsville test was a learning experience in the truck,” explains Busch. “We started off good, made some changes, and were pretty bad. We worked on it, made some more changes and got better. That is the reason we test, to learn what the truck will react to in different situations.”
Another reason for Busch and the Billy Ballew Motorsports team to test at the track is because of Busch’s inexperience at Martinsville Speedway. Busch has only one previous start, coming earlier this season in his NEXTEL Cup machine. Busch started the race 21st, completed 304 laps before overheating and finished in 39th position.
“I am looking forward to racing in the truck because I have very few laps under my belt at the track,” said Busch. “I will be able to learn a lot for Sunday. I think we should be a contender in the No. 15 ditech.com Chevy and hopefully be able to give Billy Ballew Motorsports another win before the season is up.”
The No. 15 team finished in sixth place at this year’s Spring event, despite the fact the rear sway bar had broken 40 laps from the finish. The Billy Ballew Motorsports team currently sits eighth in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series owners’ points standings. With five races remaining, the team is optimistic about regaining their positioning in the top-five, where they sat seven races ago.
The Kroger 200 gets underway at 1:15 p.m. from Martinsville Speedway. The race will be broadcast live on SPEED Channel and MRN Radio.
