Family Tradition Takes a Detour for Krisiloff this Memorial Day Weekend
May 26, 2006With every member of his family focused on “The Great American Race” this weekend, Kyle Krisiloff heads a little further east to race in Mansfield, Ohio.
Krisiloff, grandson of Indianapolis Motor Speedway owner, Mari George, rarely misses a running of the Indianapolis 500. However, his own racing schedule has created a slight detour. Krisiloff plans to be in Mansfield, Ohio this weekend for the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series’ “City of Mansfield 250” on Saturday afternoon.
“I hope to have the chance to attend the 500 on Sunday,” Krisiloff stated. “There are so many great memories there. How can you not want to be a race car driver after watching the Indy 500? I think many members of my family are planning on being at Mansfield though, so that will be nice to have them there even if I can’t make it to Indy on Sunday.”
Yet, Krisiloff’s focus is on a half- mile oval located about fours east of Indianapolis.
“I like the Mansfield track,” said the Indianapolis native. “I ran there in 2004 with the ASA car and it’s a pretty cool track. We’re taking truck number 12, which is the truck that finished third at Mansfield last year – so we should be good.”
Coming off a solid 17th place finish at Lowe’s Motor Speedway, Krisiloff feels the momentum he and his Billy Ballew Motorsports team are building will continue through this weekend’s event. As the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series enters race number two of their nine-week stretch, Krisiloff remains focused.
“I want to finish each one of these races,” Krisiloff said. “We have good trucks and there’s no reason we shouldn’t be a contender each week. It’s a matter of me gaining the experience I need to compete up front and each week, I continue to do that. Most of these places are new to me, so it takes a little bit of time to adjust. Hopefully, with me having a few laps at Mansfield from the past, I should be able to pick up the way around in these trucks pretty quickly.”
The City of Mansfield 250 gets underway at 3:00 p.m. EST Saturday afternoon from the Mansfield Motorsports Speedway. The race will be broadcast live on SPEED Channel, MRN Radio and XM Satellite Radio.
