Milwaukee’s Historical Mile Next Up for Krisiloff
June 22, 2006
Kyle Krisiloff, grandson of Mari H. George, COO of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, has deep roots within motorsports history, but plans to take on another one of motorsports’ historical tracks this weekend. Twenty-year-old Krisiloff will compete at The Milwaukee Mile, the world’s longest-running operational racing facility, for the Toyota Tundra Milwaukee 200 on Friday evening. It won’t be the first time Krisiloff has raced at The Milwaukee Mile. He made his NASCAR Busch Series debut and an ARCA Series appearance in 2005, along with a start in the CART Toyota Atlantic Series in 2003 at the one-mile facility.
This time around, Krisiloff will be behind the wheel of the No. 15 Billy Ballew Motorsports Chevrolet in his first NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series start at The Milwaukee Mile.
“The Milwaukee Mile has a lot of history and is fairly close to where I grew up,” says the Indianapolis native. “I have enjoyed running Milwaukee in the past. I got my first CART Toyota Atlantic Series podium there and set a lap record that weekend. In the Busch Series, we were top-10 in practice and qualified pretty well. I like running flat tracks and Milwaukee is just a special place. Hopefully, we can build on the things we worked on at Gateway (a similar flat track) and have a solid finish this weekend for Billy Ballew Motorsports.”
In his previous attempts at The Milwaukee Mile, Krisiloff has had good performances and built up a lot of laps in experience. In 2003, Krisiloff qualified fourth fastest in the Toyota Atlantic Series event and eventually finished second, securing his first podium finish in the series. Last year, while making his NASCAR Busch Series debut, qualified in the 26th position. Unfortunately, an expired engine cost Krisiloff a good finish, retiring early from the event. Krisiloff’s experience at The Milwaukee Mile also includes a run in the ARCA Series race in 2005. He qualified in 10th place and eventually finished 16th.
Last year, Billy Ballew Motorsports fielded the No. 15 Silverado for NASCAR Busch Series champion Martin Truex, Jr. The team struggled with the handling throughout the day, capping the night off with a 19th place finish after starting in 24th position.
The Toyota Tundra Milwaukee 200 gets underway at 9:15 EST on Friday evening. The race will be broadcast live on SPEED Channel and MRN Radio.
