Grubb Plans to Beat the “Blues”
July 13, 2006Although Memphis is known for their Blues music, Kevin Grubb hopes he won’t be feeling the blues when he returns to the seat of the No. 15 Spondivits Chevrolet for Billy Ballew Motorsports this weekend at Memphis Motorsports Park. Grubb made his first start in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series since 1997 last week at Kentucky Speedway and racked up a 21st place finish. This weekend, Grubb is even more excited to head to Memphis Motorsports Park for the O’Reilly 200.
“I’m looking forward to racing at Memphis more than I was about Kentucky,” said Grubb, a native of Mechanicsville, Va. “I’ve had a lot of success on the short tracks, such as my home track, Richmond (International Raceway). They’re shaped alike and you drive both tracks pretty similar. I’ve ran well at Memphis in the past in the Busch car so I’m really looking anxious to get on the track.”
Crew Chief Richie Wauters has elected to use the same truck that was raced at The Milwaukee Mile by Johnny Sauter. Sauter qualified the truck in the third position and posted a 12th place finish. “It’s a truck that was raced at Milwaukee and it ran really well,” continues the 28-year-old Grubb. “Billy (Ballew) and Richie’s trucks have always been fast and this weekend should be no different.”
Along with the return of Grubb to the cockpit of the No. 15, Billy Ballew Motorsports also has a return of one of their sponsors. Spondivits, an award-winning restaurant based in Atlanta, Ga., will accent the No. 15 Silverado for this weekend’s race at Memphis Motorsports Park. Spondivits was also an associate sponsor for the machine at the Atlanta race back in March.
“In celebration of Spondivit’s 27th birthday, we’re proud to mark the occasion by jumping on board with Billy Ballew Motorsports and driver Kevin Grubb at Memphis this weekend,” said owner Andy Camp. “We’re excited about the opening of our third location in the Buckhead area of Atlanta earlier this year and our ability to present our award-winning menu to a greater number of visitors and residents of the Atlanta area.”
Team Davis Dirt Racing & Terry Reid Automotive Group will also be displayed on the No. 15 Silverado. Both entities are Georgia-based and longtime supporters of team owner Billy Ballew.
The Billy Ballew Motorsports team finished in eighth position last year at this race with veteran racer John Andretti behind the wheel. The team is currently tied for 25th position in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Owners’ Points Standings after 13 events.
