Grubb Ready for Short Track Action at ORP
August 3, 2006Virginia native Kevin Grubb grew up racing late models around the short tracks of the Southeast, so heading to Indianapolis’ O’Reilly Raceway Park sparks great interest for the driver of the No. 15 Alpharetta Self Storage/Krud Kutter Chevy for Billy Ballew Motorsports. Heading to the .686-mile oval for Friday night’s NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race, Grubb is confident in turning in a good finish.
“I like any short track,” said Grubb, who makes his third start with the team. “Short track racing is how I started and I enjoy running on the bullrings like that. I’m confident we can run well at ORP. I’m excited about getting in the truck after two weeks in the Busch car. It’ll be nice to work with Richie (Wauters, crew chief) again and hopefully we’ll have a good run for Billy Ballew Motorsports, Alpharetta Self Storage and Krud Kutter.”
Although the track has changed its name to O’Reilly Raceway Park, the characteristics of Indianapolis Raceway Park are the same. “You run the high side of the track the whole race,” said Grubb, who has one top-15 finish at ORP in a NASCAR Busch vehicle. “It’s kind of like Darlington where you run right up alongside the wall. It’s different than any other track where you usually you want to be as low as you can, but it’s fun to race on and I’m excited to get back to my short track roots.”
The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series has had the last two weekends off after a nine-week stretch, but the time away from the track wasn’t quite the vacation for the Billy Ballew Motorsports team. Time was spent rebuilding the many trucks in the BBM stable and doing a bit of research and development.
“The guys at the shop have done a lot over the last couple of weeks,” continues Grubb. “They built some new trucks to prepare for the rest of the season and repaired the other ones. They have also been working a lot on the front ends of the Silverados. I’m sure it will all pay off when the No. 15 Alpharetta Self Storage/Krud Kutter Chevrolet hits the track on Friday.”
Alpharetta Self Storage jumps on board as the team’s primary sponsor this weekend. Alpharetta Self Storage, based in Alpharetta, Ga., offers a sophisticated storage solution, where you can house your personal and business possessions in a state-of-the-art, climate-controlled secure facility. In addition to their commercial and residential storage accommodations, their highly specialized Biometrically Accessed Wine Storage is a rare and luxurious accommodation in the industry. Alpharetta Self Storage is also a proud member of the Self Storage Association (SSA).
Krud Kutter also returns to the No. 15 Chevy as an associate sponsor for the Power Stroke Diesel 200. Krud Kutter was recently chosen as the nation’s “Best Cleaning Product” by Reader’s Digest magazine. Krud Kutter products are sold throughout 15,000 retail outlets. Their professional cleaning supplies, consisting of over 20 different products, are used by janitorial staffs, pressure washing services, and countless other professionals around the country.
The Power Stroke Diesel 200 rolls off at 8:45 p.m. EST and will be shown live on SPEED Channel. MRN Radio will carry the race broadcast live from O’Reilly Raceway Park.
