‘Sieg Brings Georgia Owner and Sponsor 17 place finish at AMS’
Georgia native, Shane Sieg had a strong run in the No. 15 Terry Reid www.only78.com Billy Ballew Motorsports NASCAR Craftsman Truck Saturday, October 27, in the running of the EasyCare Vehicle Service Contracts 200 at the Atlanta Motor Speedway. Sieg brought home a 17th place finish in the 130 lap 200.2 mile race after a disappointing qualifying run put him in the 30th place position on the starting grid.
Crew chief, Doug George and the No. 15 Terry Reid www.only78.com Craftsman Truck Series Team were confident that Sieg would be to advance through the field once the 22nd of the 25 race of the 2007 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series schedule began. The confidence paid off as Sieg had advanced 10 positions into the 20th place position by lap 30 when coming to the competition yellow called by NASCAR to check tire wear.
Sieg, making his second appearance at the Atlanta Motor Speedway in the Craftsman Truck Series, reported loose conditions in the race truck during the competition yellow taking on four tires and fuel during the stop restarting in the 19th place position on lap 36. The fresh tires appeared to be what the Tucker, Georgia driver needed running consistent laps working his way to his highest position of the day in 14th place.
With the leaders running at record pace and a right front tire vibration, Sieg fell victim to losing a lap but was able to regain that lap after receiving the Lucky Dog award allowing him a free pass to regain the lap he had lost prior in the third of five caution periods. Sieg continued to fight loose conditions in the Silverado but persevered posting 34 passes during green flag conditions advancing 21 positions ranking third amongst the 36 race truck field.
“All in all it was a pretty good day for us,” Sieg said. “We didn’t qualify as well as we would have liked, but we were able to pass some trucks and keep moving forward but we were just a little tight. I had them loosen the truck up on the first stop and we would have probably been better if we had left it alone. I bumped the wall a few times because I was so loose. But still a good run for us, Top-20 for us is good and I am really happy with that. It was a good day.”
The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series is in the homestretch with only three races remaining in the 2007 season. The next event is at the Texas Motor Speedway for the Silverado 350k Friday, November 2.
