Rowdy Busch and Billy Ballew Celebrate Victory Number Two
November 11, 2007Billy Ballew Motorsports goes back to Victory Lane with Rowdy (Kyle) Busch Friday, November 9 in the running of the Casino Arizona 150 at the Phoenix International Raceway. Busch and Ballew are making their second appearance in the Winners Circle in the 2007 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series; the first coming just two weeks ago at the Atlanta Motor Speedway.
Busch was the second fastest in the final practice for the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series but was loose in qualifying posting a time of 27.578 seconds at a speed of 130.539 mph placing him in the eight place position for the 150 lap, 150 mile race.
In the young drivers’ style, Busch, 22 started to advance immediately through the field but didn’t gain much ground before numerous cautions on the racetrack occurred. Busch radioed in to crew chief Richie Wauters that the truck had been loose and pitted for tires and fuel on the third of 13 caution periods on the track. Busch restarted in the seventh place position.
When the red flag flew on lap 48, Busch was positioned in sixth place. When the green flag fell on lap 50, Busch started moving back through the field, driving three-wide on the one-mile track. The top six trucks all ran neck and neck with Busch moving to the 4th place position when the sixth caution flag was flown.
With long green flag runs seeming doubtful, Busch let the two Kevin Harvick Inc. teammates battle it out in front of him, but when the yellow returned Busch pitted, ready to make his move to the front of the 36 truck field.
The Billy Ballew Motorsports Pit Crew was on top of their game changing tires and sending the Flanders Beef Patties Silverado back out on the track in the fifth place position. The team, comprised of several different NASCAR NEXTEL Cup and Busch Series over the wall crew members, made flawless stops all night.
On lap 93, Busch advanced to the second place position radioing in that the brakes started to get hot on the truck where he was advised to take it easy since there were many laps remaining and a lot could happen on the one-mile Phoenix International Raceway.
Busch, who was fastest on the restarts, was took the lead away on lap 109, holding it until the checkered flag flew on lap 150 in the Casino Arizona 150 at the Phoenix International Raceway. Busch made his career sixth victory in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series for Billy Ballew Motorsports.
“It’s awesome to have a win in the truck on Friday night then backing it up on Saturday with a win in the Busch car,” Busch said. “We’re taking the Texas truck we should have won the race with but blew a motor, so we want to try to put it in Victory Lane again in Homestead for Billy Ballew.”
The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series heads to the Homestead-Miami Speedway for the final race of the 2007 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Friday, November 16. Busch will again pilot the No. 51, Billy Ballew Motorsports Silverado entry.
