Busch Back with Ballew at World Center of Racing
February 9, 2009Daytona Beach, FL
NASCAR Sprint Cup Series phenom Kyle “Rowdy” Busch will take to the track Friday, February 13, 2009 for the running of the NextEra Energy Resources 250 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at the World Center of Racing. This will be Busch’s second start at the 2.5-mile famed Daytona International Speedway for Ballew. The first came in 2008 where Busch brought home a second place finish. This year Busch is back in the No. 51 Miccosukee Resort Tundra looking to improve a position looking for a win in the 2009 Series Season opener.
“I always enjoy running in the Truck Series, so I’m looking forward to running some races again with Billy (Ballew) this year,” Busch said. “It’s a great series and the racing is always great. As for Daytona, last year’s race was pretty wild and we were in the middle of some of it during the middle of the race. We didn’t have a truck that handled as well there, so we were all over the place at times. Luckily there at the end Benson pulled out too soon, so I didn’t go with him. He got back in behind me again a little bit later there with the last lap. I tried to get a run through the last part of the corner on the last lap I think, and I wasn’t quite able to get the run that I wanted down the last straight chute. Hopefully we can be in a position the last few laps of the race and make the right move on that last lap to finish one position better than last year.”
Busch looks to make the right moves Friday night with Billy Ballew Motorsports crew chief Doug George calling the shots from the pit box. Richie Wauters who has been Busch’s crew chief since 2005 made the switch with George to work with developmental driver Shane Sieg, who will drive pilot the second Ballew entry.
George has been with Billy Ballew Motorsports since early spring 2007 as the crew chief on the No. 15 Toyota Tundra. George’s knowledge of auto racing comes from the mechanical side and the driver’s point of view. He is a former NASCAR Grand National, West Series Champion and the NASCAR Southwest Series Champion in 1990. George has two starts in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (Sonoma and Phoenix, 1995) and 56 starts in the Camping World Truck Series Career.
Busch boasts 19 starts at the 2.5-mile Daytona International Speedway with one win in the NASCAR Sprint Cup and Nationwide Series. Busch has one prior NASCAR Camping World Truck Series start finishing second.
In eight starts at Daytona Billy Ballew Motorsports has posted two top-five and two top-10 finishes with one pole start in 2005 (Kerry Earnhardt).
In these difficult financial times Ballew welcomes primary sponsor Miccosukee Resort back in 2009 with Georgia based Red-Top Auto Auction as the primary associate sponsor in Daytona. Ballew is still seeking sponsorship for both teams in the 2009 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series season.
