Sieg Starts off Season with Successful Team
February 9, 2009Daytona Beach, FL
Shane Sieg will start the 2009 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series season with a successful team and crew chief when he takes to the track at the Daytona International Speedway for the running of the NextEra Energy Resources 250 race for Billy Ballew Motorsports
Sieg has 10 previous career starts for Ballew but will make his first start for the team at the 2.5-mile Daytona International Speedway in the No. 15 Phoenix Construction/ RedTop Auto Auction Toyota Tundra. In 2009, Sieg will also team up with winning crew chief Richie Wauters. Wauters has led the Billy Ballew Motorsports team to 10 NCWTS victories.
“I had mechanical failures in my first two starts at Daytona in the trucks,” Sieg said. “I know we won’t have any of those issues in this Billy Ballew Motorsports equipment. Richie (Wauters) is “the man” when it comes to setting up these chassis and I know we have a good hot rod for Daytona. I’m really excited about going out there racing toe to toe with the crème of the crop of drivers.”
“Anytime you are at Daytona it is a little intimidating and having Kyle (Busch) as your teammate can make it a little more,” continued Sieg. He and I race hard in the off-season in the Super Late Models and I’m looking forward to mixing it up out on the asphalt. I hope if we get the chance to draft together I get to give him the push instead of seeing him in my rearview mirror. Daytona is a funny track, you need your friends but you often change friends while you are out there going for the spots. You have to be on your toes during the whole event watching all around you hoping not to get caught up in the big one.”
“I have to thank James Finch, Phoenix Construction in Panama City, Florida for coming onboard as our primary sponsor and Wallace Sanford with Redtop Auto Auction out of Cartersville, Georgia for being our primary associate sponsor. Hopefully, we’ll stay out of trouble and be in the right place at the end to have a good showing for the sponsors and the fans.”
The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series takes the track for the running of the NextEra Energy Resources 250 Friday, February 13, 2009 at 8:00pm ET. Live televised coverage begins at 7:30pm ET.
