Solid Finish for Sieg in Southern California
February 22, 2009Fontana, CA
Shane Sieg piloting the No. 15 Phoenix Construction, RedTop Auto Auction Toyota Tundra posted a 16th-place finish in the running of the San Bernardino County 200 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Auto Club Speedway.
Sieg in his career first start at the two-mile speedway struggled to get the feel of the track which relegated him to a 25th-place position for the 100 lap, 200 mile event. From the beginning of the event Sieg reported the truck was loose through the corners forcing crew chief Richie Wauters to bring the young driver down pit road for adjustments to tighten the Toyota Tundra. Sieg returned to the track and worked on his entry into the corners, improving with consistent times.
While green-flag pit stops began late in the race, Sieg moved to the fourth place position and despite not wanting to lose track position the team had to fuel the Tundra relegating him to a 16th-place finish at the Fontana, California racetrack.
“This is a tough little track to get used to,” Sieg said. “I struggled with my line all weekend and it continued through the race. The guys gave us a good truck, but I know I just need to learn the track; I’m looking forward to heading to Atlanta where I am much more comfortable.
Both Sieg and team owner Billy Ballew call Atlanta home and will take to the track Saturday, March 7th, 2009 with the rest of the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series.
Sieg has three Starts at Atlanta Motor Speedway with a best finish of 13th-place in 2004. Billy Ballew Motorsports has 12 starts at the 1.54-mile quad-oval race track with three wins (Kyle Busch 2005, 2007, 2008).
The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series is off until March 7, 2009 where they will return at Sieg and team owner Billy Ballew’s hometown track, the Atlanta Motor Speedway.
