ch3_5775Brian Ickler piloting the No. 15 Samsung Instinct Toyota Tundra learned valuable lessons in his first NASCAR Camping World Truck Series start Friday, May 15, 2009 at Lowe’s Motor Speedway.

Due to rain canceling qualifying, Ickler was relegated to the 21st-place starting position for the NC Education Lottery 200 at the 1.5-mile speedway.

From the start of the 134-lap race the Billy Ballew Motorsports driver complained of tight conditions in turns three and four. Ickler worked on adjusting the line of his Samsung Instinct Toyota when the first caution of the race fell on lap 25.

The Samsung Instinct NCWTS team made wedge adjustments and took on four tires on their first stop and fuel on the second. A tire rolled out of the pit box causing a penalty against the team putting them at the tail end of the longest line restarting, in the 25th-place position. Ickler came back down pit road for fuel right before the restart allowing the Billy Ballew Motorsports team stay on the track while other leaders had to come to pit during green flag laps.

The adjustments seemed to help and the young rookie driver, Ickler who used his instincts to advance but the truck began a “snappy loose” condition. Ickler came back down pit road on lap 89 for four new tires and fuel restarting in the 15th-place position.

Ickler had reported in the truck had a vibration but managed to stay in the top-20 returning for adjustments and tires on lap 109. When Ickler returned to the track he continued to run top times bringing home a 16th-place finish in the No. 15 Samsung Instinct Billy Ballew Motorsports Tundra.

“It’s disappointing to not leave here with at top-10 finish for Samsung Instinct,” Ickler said. “We struggled a little today with tight conditions in practice and in the race we became snappy-loose. It is all a learning experience right now but I felt we had a top-10 truck. We’ll be back at Dover and hopefully give Billy Ballew, Samsung Instinct and the fans a better finish.”

The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series will return to action Friday, May 29, 2009 at Dover International Speedway. Ickler will make his first start at the Monster Mile in the No. 15 Samsung Instinct Toyota Tundra.

Samsung Mobile will be running a promotion where one lucky person will become an Honorary Billy Ballew Motorsports Pit Crew Member for the day at the upcoming NCWTS races; including the Dover International Speedway NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race May 29, 2009.
