Ickler makes First Start at Monster Mile for Ballew

Kyle Busch listens to Brian Ickler explain the handling of the race truck.
Brian Ickler will take to the track for his second start at Dover International Speedway but first start in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Friday, May 29, 2009. Ickler will pilot the No. 15 Samsung Instinct Billy Ballew Motorsports Toyota Tundra in the AAA Insurance 200 race on the one-mile track.
Ickler sat on the pole in the NASCAR Camping World East Series race at what has been named the “Monster Mile” at Dover International Speedway in 2008. Ickler led nine laps but was involved in an incident on lap 26 putting the car out of the event early.
“I’m excited about going to a track I’ve had some laps on,” Ickler said. “Despite having gotten involved in an accident I felt I had a pretty good feel for the one-mile concrete track. Our sponsor, Samsung Instinct is holding a contest with several winners receiving tickets to the Camping World Truck Series event at Dover with two lucky winners as part of our pit crew for the race. We’ll just follow our instincts in Dover to see if we can get a good finish for Samsung and the fans.”
Billy Ballew Motorsports has 10 previous starts at Dover International Speedway with one win posted by Kyle Busch in 2005.
Samsung Instinct will serve as the primary sponsor for the No. 15 Billy Ballew Motorsports entry. As part of the sponsorship, Samsung Mobile will be running a promotion where one lucky person will become an Honorary Billy Ballew Motorsports Pit Crew Member for the day at the upcoming NCWTS races; including the AAA Insurance 200 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race May 29, 2009. (Promotion slated for NCWTS race only at Lowe’s, Dover, Texas and Michigan race tracks. Busch Bounces Back for Second at Lowe’s
May 16, 2009Kyle “Rowdy” Busch piloting the No. 51 Miccosukee Resort Billy Ballew Motorsports Toyota Tundra overcame a series of mishaps and miscues Friday, May 15, 2009 at Lowe’s Motor Speedway to finish second in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race.
Qualifying for the NC Education Lottery 200 was canceled when rain fell after over half the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series drivers had taken their qualifying lap setting the field by the 2009 NASCAR Truck Series Owner points placing Busch at the point position for the start of the 134-lap on the 1.5-mile speedway.
Busch reported in that the truck was tight dropping from the lead at the beginning of the event into the third place position but as the air pressure in the tires built up Busch noted the truck was getting freer as the race progressed.
Busch continued to battle for the top spot until the first caution flag fell on lap 25. Busch came down pit road for four tires on his first stop on lap 26 and returned on lap 27 for fuel. Busch returned to the track but was penalized after having too many pit crew members over the wall on the stop placing him at the tail end of the longest line for the restart. Busch returned to top-off for fuel right before the restart.
Busch moved through the field to regain positions when a violent crash occurred on lap 34 sending him through the grass to avoid the incident. The accident warranted a red flag to stop the race for cleanup. Busch fearing fender damage got out of the No. 51 Miccosukee Resort Tundra to survey the condition of the Tundra, since he did not touch the truck and was just observing he was not assessed a penalty by NASCAR.

Ickler Learns Lessons at Lowe’s
Brian Ickler piloting the No. 15 Samsung Instinct Toyota Tundra learned valuable lessons in his first NASCAR Camping World Truck Series start Friday, May 15, 2009 at Lowe’s Motor Speedway.
Due to rain canceling qualifying, Ickler was relegated to the 21st-place starting position for the NC Education Lottery 200 at the 1.5-mile speedway.
From the start of the 134-lap race the Billy Ballew Motorsports driver complained of tight conditions in turns three and four. Ickler worked on adjusting the line of his Samsung Instinct Toyota when the first caution of the race fell on lap 25.
The Samsung Instinct NCWTS team made wedge adjustments and took on four tires on their first stop and fuel on the second. A tire rolled out of the pit box causing a penalty against the team putting them at the tail end of the longest line restarting, in the 25th-place position. Ickler came back down pit road for fuel right before the restart allowing the Billy Ballew Motorsports team stay on the track while other leaders had to come to pit during green flag laps.
The adjustments seemed to help and the young rookie driver, Ickler who used his instincts to advance but the truck began a “snappy loose” condition. Ickler came back down pit road on lap 89 for four new tires and fuel restarting in the 15th-place position.
Ickler had reported in the truck had a vibration but managed to stay in the top-20 returning for adjustments and tires on lap 109. When Ickler returned to the track he continued to run top times bringing home a 16th-place finish in the No. 15 Samsung Instinct Billy Ballew Motorsports Tundra.
“It’s disappointing to not leave here with at top-10 finish for Samsung Instinct,” Ickler said. “We struggled a little today with tight conditions in practice and in the race we became snappy-loose. It is all a learning experience right now but I felt we had a top-10 truck. We’ll be back at Dover and hopefully give Billy Ballew, Samsung Instinct and the fans a better finish.”
The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series will return to action Friday, May 29, 2009 at Dover International Speedway. Ickler will make his first start at the Monster Mile in the No. 15 Samsung Instinct Toyota Tundra.
Samsung Mobile will be running a promotion where one lucky person will become an Honorary Billy Ballew Motorsports Pit Crew Member for the day at the upcoming NCWTS races; including the Dover International Speedway NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race May 29, 2009. (Promotion slated for NCWTS race only at Lowe’s, Dover, Texas and Michigan race tracks.
