Kvapil Returns to the Trucks in Nashville
July 27, 2009Travis Kvapil, the 2003 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Champion, will pilot the No. 51 Miccosukee Resort Billy Ballew Motorsports truck at Nashville Superspeedway Saturday, August 1, 2009.
Kvapil won the 2007 Truck Series race in his last start at the 1.33-mile superspeedway just outside Nashville, Tennessee. The current Yates Racing NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver has five previous Camping World Truck Series starts at Nashville Superspeedway, posting one win, two top-five and three top-10 finishes.
Billy Ballew Motorsports has eight prior starts at the track with a best finish of 11th–place posted in 2004 and 2005. The team will return this week with Chassis No. 11. The truck has posted nine of the 12 career wins for Billy Ballew Motorsports. Chassis No. 11 was last run at Michigan International Speedway by Kyle Busch, who finished second in the event.
“I’m excited to be back in a Camping World Truck,” Travis Kvapil said. “I’ve had a lot of success in the Series and at Nashville where I won the last time I raced there in a truck. I’m just glad to be back in the seat. Bristol, in March, was the last time I’ve driven this year and I’m looking forward to getting back to racing.”
“Nashville is a unique, big one and one-third-mile (1 1/3) track with tight corners. It’s emphasized from the concrete surface of the track, making it hard to grip. You need to have a good handling truck to do well at Nashville. Billy Ballew’s trucks are capable of winning every week and I’d like to leave Nashville this week with a second guitar.”

Feese Returns to NASCAR in Nashville
Blake Feese will make his return to NASCAR Saturday, August 1, 2009 at Nashville Superspeedway piloting the No. 15 Billy Ballew Motorsports NASCAR Camping World Truck in the running of the Toyota Tundra 200.
The 27-year-old driver has one career NASCAR Camping World Truck Series start driving for Billy Ballew Motorsports in 2005 where he finished in the 15th-place position. Feese ran 13 events in the NASCAR Nationwide Series in 2004 and 2005.
The Billy Ballew Motorsports team will return to the Nashville Superspeedway with eight prior starts at the track with a best finish of 11th–place posted in 2004 and 2005. Feese has two ARCA RE/MAX Series races to his credit at the 1.33-mile D-shaped oval, posting one win in 2004 and a ninth-place finish in 2007.
“I’m so excited to be back racing in the trucks this weekend at Nashville,” Blake Feese said. “I made my first ever Camping World Truck Series start for Billy Ballew in 2005. I’ve worked with Richie (Wauters, crew chief) before and I couldn’t be happier than to have this whole team believe in me to drive for them this weekend. They have consistently fast, solid trucks every week and I’m ready to jump right in. I’ve won in the ARCA (RE/MAX) Series and have a lot of laps from testing over the years in Nashville so I feel pretty good going back to that track. I have to thank Billy (Ballew) for the opportunity to drive the No. 15 Tundra this weekend and hopefully we’ll bring home a solid finish Saturday.”
The No. 15 Billy Ballew Motorsports team comes off a season’s best finish of third-place last weekend at O’Reilly Raceway Park with Aric Almirola piloting the Toyota Tundra.
The Toyota Tundra 200 (150 lap, 200 mile) NASCAR Camping World Truck Series event is slated to begin Saturday, August 1, 2009 7:00pm CT with live televised broadcast on SPEED beginning at 6:30pm CT.
Almirola Third at ORP
July 25, 2009Aric Almirola piloting the No. 15 RedTop Auto Auction NASCAR Camping World truck finished in the third-place position in the running of the AAA Insurance 200 presented by JD Byrider race Friday at O’Reilly Raceway Park.
Almirola placed the No. 15 Billy Ballew Motorsports entry in the 15th-place position on the starting grid with a time of 22.763 seconds at a speed of 108.492 miles per hour for the 200 lap race.
Almirola advanced to the eighth-place position when the first caution flag fell on lap 39. The No. 15 RedTop Auto Auction team opted not to pit, while all the trucks behind Almirola came down pit road for four fresh Goodyear’s.
On the restart, Almirola had old tires and was unable to keep the truck up front and fell victim to going a lap down to the leaders.
After a long green-flag run, the caution finally flew on lap 94 and allowed for the No. 15 RedTop Auto Auction truck to come down pit road for four fresh tires and adjustments. Restarting on lap 101, Almirola started double-file next to leader and teammate Kyle Busch. Almirola knew he had to stay with the top bunch of trucks to ensure he would be awarded the Lucky Dog on the next caution.
Fortunately, Almirola stuck with the top-four trucks and was in the position to receive the Lucky Dog when the caution flag flew on lap 161. Putting the No. 15 RedTop Auto Auction truck back on the lead lap, Almirola motored forward passing trucks two and three-wide to advance to the top-10. Two more yellow-flags flew over the field on laps 173 and 187, and Almirola had worked his way up to the sixth-position going into the final 10-lap shoot out.
For the restart Almirola put on the pressure moving to the third-place position where he and other competitors put heat on the leader. The four truck battle continued as the laps clicked off. Almirola battled for position all the way to the checkered flag driving off the turn four corner, securing a third-place finish in the AAA Insurance 200.
“We had a great truck. We started the race 15th tonight and drove up to sixth and the first caution came out and we were, ‘Pit? Don’t Pit? Pit? Don’t Pit?’” Aric Almirola said. “So we stayed out and I thought we were fine. We rode around in sixth there for a while and I don’t know if we had a right-front (tire) going down or what but all of a sudden we couldn’t go. We went from being right with the leaders to not even being able to run in the same ballpark as them. We got really, really tight and lost a lap and I was so disappointed but I knew we had a good enough truck to not give up. Once we put new tires on it, it was right back to the same truck it was. I ran right there with the leaders and was fortunate enough to get a caution and get the ‘lucky dog’ and we come back in and got four more tires and man, it was just like night and day difference. I’m really proud of Richie Wauters (crew chief) and everybody on this Billy Ballew Motorsports truck tonight. They give me awesome trucks every week and it’s a lot of fun to race..”
“You could tell everybody who didn’t have tires. That was fun. It was a lot of fun to race on. It’s a lot of fun when Goodyear brings a tire like that where the tire really falls off and tires mean a lot.”
“We were definitely fast enough to win. We just needed some more laps. That caution right there at the end really hurt us. I was a little bit better than (Dennis) Setzer and he was on the same tires that we were and I was on better tires than (Ron) Hornaday and (Mike) Skinner. Congrats to (Ron) Hornaday. Four in a row, that’s incredible.”
The NASCAR Camping World heads to the Nashville Superspeedway Saturday, August 1, 2009.
Busch 10th at ORP
Kyle “Rowdy” Busch piloting the No. 51 Miccosukee Resort/RedTop Auto Auction Toyota Tundra finished in the 10th-place position in the running of the AAA Insurance 200 presented by JD Byrider NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race Friday at the O’Reilly Raceway Park.
Busch placed the No. 51 Toyota in the ninth place position on the starting grid with a time of22.663 seconds at a speed of 108.971 miles per hour.
Busch back in the Billy Ballew Motorsports entry for the first time since Michigan in June didn’t hold the young talent up as he maneuvered his Tundra around the .686-mile racetrack in Indianapolis, Indiana.
On lap 18 Busch reported the truck was chattering but still driving three wide to pass for position stating the truck was tight off the corners.
Crew chief, Doug George brought Busch down pit road under the first caution on lap 38 for tires, fuel and adjustments. Busch needed big adjustments to the track bar noting that the track bar had no lateral grip. An earlier stop for fuel put the team in a different cycle then the others
Busch’s truck improved with the changes and by lap 65 he was on the heels of the leaders in the third place position in the Miccosukee Resort Tundra.
Caution returned to the track on lap 93 with Busch leaving pit road with the point position for the restart on lap 102. The talented driver immediately began advancing on the field but the No. 30 truck caught Busch on lap 125. The two battled for the lead as two other drivers joined the hunt for the lead.
Busch lost the lead on lap 146 after reporting to the Billy Ballew Motorsports team that his right-front tire was chattering. He continued to battle for the top spots but was unable to advance back to the lead settling for a 10th-place finish in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race.
Busch led 49 laps in the 200-lap race, posted 10 of the fastest laps of the race, and led the field in green flag lap passes of a total of 47.
The NASCAR Camping World heads next to the Nashville Superspeedway Saturday, August 1, 2009.
