Aric Almirola returns to one of his favorite tracks, O’Reilly Raceway Park (ORP) this weekend in the No. 15 RedTop Auto Auction Billy Ballew Motorsports entry. Almirola will be playing double duty at the Indianapolis, Indiana racetrack running in both the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series and the NASCAR Nationwide Series races.

“I can’t wait to run back-to-back nights at ORP, running the No. 15 RedTop Truck for Billy Ballew and then Saturday night in the No. 40 Nationwide Series car for Key Motorsports,” Aric Almirola said. “It’s a racers dream to run back-to-back nights and especially at ORP!”

ORP serves as the site of Almirola’s second career start in one of NASCAR’s top-tier Touring Series where he posted a 10th-place finish in the Camping World Truck Series in 2005. He has one other Truck Series start at the short track in 2006. Almirola has two previous NASCAR Nationwide Series starts posting one pole start and a sixth place finish.

Billy Ballew Motorsports has nine previous starts at the .686-mile short track in Indianapolis, Indiana with a best finish of eighth place posted by Kyle Busch in 2008.

“It’s a little bull-ring, flat-out side-by-side racing,” Almirola said. “It’s unlike any other racetrack that we go to on the NASCAR circuit. You can find any line around the place to race and pass guys. Being a short track and being able to run two and three-wide is awesome.”

“There’s not a bad seat in the house! I wish we could race at ORP more than just once, it’s a racers track. You’ve gotta get up on the wheel and drive. Not that I don’t do that every weekend at every track, but ORP is different. It’s a different challenge for the driver, but fun at the same time.”

RedTop Auto Auction will serve as the primary sponsor on the No. 15 Billy Ballew Motorsports truck. Auction Broadcasting Company, parent company to the Atlanta, GA-based ABC Red Top Auto Auction is headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana.

The AAA Insurance 200 (200 laps, 137.2 Miles) NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race is slated to begin at 8:00pm ET Friday July 24, 2009. SPEED will broadcast live coverage of the race beginning at 7:30 pm ET with live truck series qualifying at 5:00pm ET.

Almirola Fifth in Kentucky

Filed under: News — admin @ 2:21 PM

Aric Almirola piloting the No. 15 RedTop Auto Auction NASCAR Camping World Truck Series entry finished fifth in the running of the Built Ford Tough 225 race Saturday night at the Kentucky Speedway.

Almirola placed the Billy Ballew Motorsports truck in the 13th-place position for the 150 lap, 225 mile race, on the Sparta, Kentucky race track.

From the beginning of the race Almirola reported that the Camping World Truck was tight and was looking for adjustments on the first pit stop which came on lap 35.  Almirola was running in the 13th-place position coming down pit road for four tires, air pressure, and wedge and track bar adjustments on the No. 15 RedTop Auto Auction truck.

Almirola returned to the track in the 16th-place for the restart and immediately started moving forward running two and three wide on the 1.5-mile D-shaped racetrack advancing to the 11th-place position when caution returned to the racetrack on lap 53.  The team stayed out on the racetrack continuing to advance after the green flag returned on lap 57.  Again, Almirola used his experience and talent to advance to the seventh place position by lap 65 running times faster than the leader.

Almirola reported in that the race truck was again becoming tight while running in the seventh place position.  A long green flag run ensued on the racetrack forcing teams to come down pit road under green flag conditions for service.  Almirola pitted on the 102 for fuel and adjustments returning in the 11th-place position on the track.

When the caution flag flew on lap 112 crew chief Richie Wauters hoped to get some better track position in the closing laps so the team brought the truck back down pit road taking on only two right side tires.  The move put Almirola off pit road in the lead.

Almirola maintained the lead despite two caution periods but on the restart at lap 132 he spun his tires causing the second and third place drivers to scramble to avoid colliding with the No. 15 Camping World Truck.  Almirola recovered but lost the point spot settling in to third place position when he ran wide open on the throttle coming off of turn three scraping the wall.  The incident only caused minor tire rub but put him back to the sixth place position.  Almirola gained a spot bringing home a fifth place finish for the Billy Ballew Motorsports team.

“We were both good, (referring to teammate Brian Ickler) We both took two tires on that pit stop,” Almirola said.  “I knew that clean air would be important and when I took off on that restart and we were leading that clean air was really helping.  We were driving away and the caution came out there and then caution, after caution really hurt us.  We only had two tires and everybody around us had four. I just can’t thank the #15 team enough for all their hard work this weekend. They really thrashed on the truck during and after practice. We were at a total lost after practice on set-up and had to do some work to our right-front fender to get to stop rubbing on the tire. So really the first time I put a real lap down with the truck was during qualifying and the race. Richie (Wauters) and the crew really did a great job this weekend, just wish I could have brought home a trophy for them!”

Almirola will return to the No. 15 RedTop Auto Auction truck at O’Reilly Motorsports Park Friday, July, 24, 2009 for the running of the NASCAR Camping World race.

Penalty Pushes Ickler to 21st in Kentucky

July 19, 2009
Filed under: News — admin @ 4:26 AM

Brian Ickler piloting the No. 51 RedTop Auto Auction Toyota Tundra finished in the 21st-place position Saturday night after an accident late in the running of the Built Ford Tough 225 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Kentucky Speedway.

Ickler placed the Billy Ballew Motorsports entry in the fourth place position on the starting grid for the 150 lap, 225-mile race on the 1.5-mile D-Shaped Tri-Oval in Sparta, Kentucky.

From the beginning of the event Ickler’s Tundra was fast racing three wide for positions on the 1.5-mile racetrack.  Ickler reported in at the first caution on lap 34 that the truck was getting better and better as the tire pressures built up on the race truck.  Ickler came down pit road on lap 35 for tires and on lap 36 for fuel returning to the track in the sixth place position for the restart on lap 41.  Ickler again ran three wide battling for positions as the tire pressures built on the Billy Ballew Motorsports entry.

Ickler reported in that the truck was beginning to tighten up off the corners of the racetrack dropping him back to the 11th-place position.  Ickler persevered and worked his way into the ninth place position on lap 92 by arcing the truck into the corners carrying off better speed.

With a long green flag run on the track the teams started coming down pit road for service.  Crew chief Doug George kept Ickler on the track long enough to lead a lap for the Billy Ballew Motorsports team then bringing him down pit road for fuel only on lap 103.

Ickler returned to the track in the fourteenth place position when the caution came out on lap 124. The team wanting track position took only two right side tires putting the RedTop Auto Auction Tundra  back out on the track in the second place position behind teammate Aric Almirola in the No. 15 Camping World truck.

Ickler battled to maintain the position but dropped back to the third spot when another caution flag flew.  On the restart at lap 133 the leader, his teammate, spun the tires, causing the second place truck to get into the back of the leader.  Ickler went low to dodge the trucks on the restart but did not advance his position.  NASCAR officials saw the move differently black flagging the driver sending him back to the 17th-place position.

Despite the disappointment of the penalty the team focused on advancing to the front when two competitors ahead of him connected giving Ickler no place to go but into the side of the other race truck.  The incident ended the RedTop Auto Auction team’s night early relegating him to a 21st-place finish in the 150 lap race.

“The 15 (Aric Almirola) spun his tires and it definitely wasn’t his fault – he’s my teammate,” Ickler said.  “It got to be so rough on the outside that he spun his tires the 81 (Tayler Malsam) got into the back of him and I went low to avoid them.  I backed out of the throttle.  Didn’t really pass him, they said I did, gave it back and they still penalized us and put us in the back.  I was trying to get to the front in a hurry but take our time.  Two trucks wrecked off of (turn) two and I came down and t-boned one of them.  It’s just one of those things.  We tore up a really good truck tonight.”

Kyle “Rowdy” Busch will return to the No. 51 Billy Ballew Motorsports entry at O’Reilly Raceway Park Friday, July 24, 2009.
