HAMPTON, GA (September 5, 2011) — Colin Braun and the No. 51 Bullet Liner Ford team rolled into Atlanta Motor Speedway this Labor Day weekend for their second race together in this year’s NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. Having scored a top-10 result in their inaugural outing together, the Billy Ballew Motorsports squad was confident of a positive showing.
In an event that saw practice, qualifying, and the race all on the same day, it was a full day of action and one in which consistently making the right changes to the Truck was critical to success. After solid practice sessions, Braun qualified the Bullet Liner Ford in the 15th position.
At the drop of the green flag, Braun quickly advanced up into the top-10 where he would run for the vast majority of the night. Braun reported that the No. 51 Truck had more speed in it than the Michigan race and the team felt good about the modifications it had made in the time between races.
Track position proved to be important as it was difficult to make passes on the racing surface. Crew chief Richie Wauters and the team implored various pit strategy to try and move up the field as from a speed perspective, Braun felt his Ford was the 4th or 5th fastest Truck in action. With just under 20 laps to go, Braun brought the Bullet Liner Ford to pit road for the final round of service. Braun was deemed by NASCAR officials to be too fast entering his pit box and the resulting penalty dropped him down the running order, ultimately finishing in the 19th position.
“While I’m disappointed with the result as we had a better Truck than what that shows, I’m encouraged with the progress we made as a team,” said Braun. “I really feel that if we keep racing together as a group and building on the foundation we have laid, that we have the ability to win races in this Series.”
